I won’t bore you with too much detail but I have recently signed up for a course which is all about digital-ness; blogs/ media/ online communities etc in a bid to improve my tech skills… exciting and a bit scary at the same time. I also spent a great day out last week learning all about ‘Appreciative Coaching’ – a great approach which I hope to share with you throughout future posts….. all this extra learning hasn’t left me with too much headspace, my brain is feeling the pressure! However I wanted to take a moment to share something with you, something that I have been thinking about from the appreciative coaching session …..
Some discussions last week have made me consider how rarely we celebrate our achievements and strengths, or talk about all the great things we have brought into being through our own hard work, determination and belief. I don’t just mean the big ones; new job, new house, marathons etc but the smaller things too; juggling busy lives, getting to the gym, saying no sometimes.
It seems many conversations and discussions revolve around the problems we face or issues we have. Of course it’s helpful to discuss these things too but how lovely is it to spend time thinking about the ‘hurdles’ we have overcome? Remembering the times when we were really proud and then linking all of this together to appreciate the steps we have taken to be happy and successful and feel inspired to continue to do so.
I’m sure most of us have been told at some point that it isn’t nice to boast or show off and perhaps that’s true – there is a time and a place – but making time to share and listen to each other’s tales of achievement is a definite way to lift your mood, build self belief and act as motivator.
I’d like to leave you with 3 questions that have made an impact for me, and will hopefully inspire some positive thinking and inspiration for you too;
- Describe your greatest accomplishment to date…
- What makes this accomplishment important for you?
- What learning have you brought into your current actions from this achievement?
You are very welcome to share your thoughts and comments below – a perfect opportunity to share something you are proud of!!
Happy pondering xx
